Tyson Foods Partners with L.A. Unified School District

Monday, September 12, 2011

SPRINGDALE, Ark. – September 12, 2011 – Tyson Foods (NYSE: TSN) recently partnered with the Los Angeles Unified School District on a healthy eating initiative called “I’M IN.”

The program will help fight childhood obesity by promoting the fact the LASUD is serving healthy, nutritious meals to school children. “I’M IN” also is intended to reduce dropout rates as it refers to positive student attendance.

Tyson is the LAUSD’s supplier of poultry products. The company helped develop nine new menu items – including Chicken Pozole, Ancho Chicken Chili and Caribbean Meatballs – that fit the “I’M IN” objective of providing nutritious foods that school children love to eat.

“This is a giant step in the right direction for school children everywhere,” said Andy Lubert, Tyson’s vice president and general manager of government services. “We applaud the L.A. Unified School District for championing wholesome foods for so many children.”

The LASUD serves more than 650,000 meals every day. It will soon release a new school lunch and breakfast menu with a wellness campaign that will tie together proper eating and regular exercise.

The campaign, which officially launched August 29, will include public service announcements, celebrity-sponsored student and community activities, food tasting events traditional advertising and social media.

The District has developed a Facebook page dedicated to the “I’M IN” program. It’s available at www.facebook.com/ImInLAUSD.
